Mathematics, Science, and Leadership Summer Camp

In response to a growing need for academic support in underserved communities, Elex Children’s Haven launched the Mathematics, Science, and Leadership Summer Camp at Harvest for Lost Souls Church in June 2017.

This one-week intensive program provided incoming sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students with early exposure to core mathematics and science concepts, specifically targeting topics most often missed on the STAAR test. But the program went further than academics alone.

With integrated leadership development and health education, it took a holistic approach to helping students grow in both skill and self-confidence, laying the groundwork for long-term success inside and outside the classroom.

Here are some key highlights of our impact:

Academic Enrichment & STEM Readiness

  • Delivered focused instruction in math and science concepts most commonly missed on the STAAR test

  • Offered early exposure to critical material to reduce student anxiety and build academic confidence before the school year began

  • Targeted incoming middle school students from low-to-median income households in underserved neighborhoods within the Beaumont Independent School District

Life Skills & Leadership Development

  • Incorporated daily sessions on leadership, personal responsibility, and social-emotional awareness

  • Built soft skills like communication, problem-solving, and teamwork to complement academic growth

  • Created space for students to reflect on their future potential—not just in school, but in life

Health, Hygiene & Holistic Growth

  • Emphasized the importance of nutrition, hygiene, and personal well-being as part of the learning experience

  • Taught practical health habits to support physical and mental resilience

Sometimes, all a student needs is one week of encouragement, structure, and belief to see themselves—and their potential—differently. Help us bring programs like this to more communities in need.
